Founded in 1855 as the Government Hospital for the Insane. The main building was constructed along the “Kirkbride Model", which prioritized light and fresh air for patients. Many clinical procedures were developed here, and the facility was used by the OSS in WWII to test “truth serum.” Much of the site now is home to the US Department of Homeland Security.
