The Santi Maria e Donato was founded in the 7th century, and the present building dates from ~1140.

The floor mosaics date from the 12th century and have needed significant conservation due to flooding

The mosaic of the Virgin at Santi Maria e Donato also dates from the 12th century. Below are 15th century frescos.

The church contains the relics of Donatus of Arezzo as well as the "bones of a dragon" slayed by the saint.
