Formerly part of the Hanseatic Trading League, Bergen was our first stopping point in Norway. In addition to walking around the quay with the old trading houses and modern ships, we enjoyed the funicular and the view from above the city. Bergenhus fortress is still an active military site, even though it is one of the oldest fortifications in Europe.
