Quiraing & Isle of Skye
The Quiraing, which is a still-falling landslip, is an experience that gives you the feeling of being transported if not to an alien planet, then at least to Tolkien's Middle Earth. A hike through the Quiraing is not difficult in a technical sense. You do not have to scramble up and down boulders or difficult rocky paths. It is difficult in a "keeping your eyes on the trail" sense, as there is so much to take in ahead of you; to your sides; behind you; way off in the distance from you.
One of the major geographic features on Skye are the Cuillin Hills, especially the Black Cuillin. Continuing on the A87, you are presented with the hills early on after you arrive on the island as the coastal plain gets narrower and narrower and you begin to gain elevation on your drive. Thankfully, there are many pull-offs to chose from to take in the view.
